A standard bundle of asphalt shingles weighs roughly 60–80 pounds, and a typical roof takes several hundred bundles. Multiply that out and a mid-size tear-off can easily produce 3–5 tons of debris — sometimes more if the roof has multiple layers, since a lot of homes in this area have a second or even third layer of shingles installed over the original. Each additional layer roughly adds its own tonnage on top of the first.

Driveway Placement and Surface Protection

A loaded 20 or 30 yard roll-off is heavy, and the delivery truck adds its own weight on top of that when it sets the container down. We place plywood or boards under the container’s rails on most residential driveways as standard practice, which spreads the load and protects the surface — this matters on older concrete or asphalt driveways especially.
